The Newman Family and Youth Services Hub will be a new, purpose built centre designed to co-locate a variety of services committed to improving the wellbeing of local children and young people.
The Shire believes that a key benefit of the community hub model is that it significantly adds value to the Shire’s and local services’ capacity for partnerships, including joint initiatives, improved referral pathways, information sharing and increased accessibility to a wide range of services.
It is anticipated that the increased collaboration, service integration and introduction of a centralised high quality information and referral service will have significant benefits for the children and young people and their families in Newman.
The scope of the project includes numerous interrelated internal and external spaces which together form the ‘hub’ which will be located on the corner of Moondoorow Street and Hilditch Avenue in the centre of Newman. This site currently occupied by the current Youth Centre, Childcare Centre, Scouts and other related facilities, which is both owned and operated by the Shire of East Pilbara.
JCY undertook extensive consultation which included current service providers within the town including those that may occupy the new centre as well as partnering organisations and other community groups. In addition, the Shire has assessed the ongoing viability of existing buildings within which the current services are provided and the extent of hours they are used. The outcomes of this research have reinforced the benefits of a central flexible and coordinated hub.
