The City of Karratha is located in a rapidly growing area and it will see its population from 19,000 to 50, 000 residents in the next few decades.
The Shire of Roebourne have embarked on a strategy to provide new social infrastructure to support this growing community. The City entrance precinct has a new masterplan which identifies the culutural quarter which is to be developed to provide a new theatre, library, gallery, amphitheatre and support offices for community services providers.
This cultural centre design concept defines the new iconic entry into Karratha. The building form and materials are a response to local natural land forms and material colours. The building concept will be a new cultural heart of Karratha with outdoor cinemas, social gatherings.
This concept design design stage has confirmed the site servicing, the site parking allocation and the budget for construction and operation. The project is due to start schematic design in 2014 and be delivered in 2016
