Joondalup Rail Station

Located in the Town Centre of Joondalup, the station forms part of the Northern Suburbs Transit system and is a key element in the urban fabric of the Joondalup City Centre, both as a transport node and in its integration into the Lakeside Shopping Centre forming a contiguous commercial development which is beneficial to both operators.  The station functions as a train – bus interchange providing safe, efficient and pleasant transport of passengers at all times.

The station is expressed as a series of gullwing roof forms, built of white steel structural elements, with a membrane of white corrugated steel sheeting forming the roof canopy. The train station platform is located in a cutting 5 metres below the ground level. It is from this level that the largest gullwing structures project. Smaller gullwing structures extend along either side of the main roof at the higher ground level and delineate the bus setdowns and passenger concourse. Access to the station is gained by a grand stair to the north and by escalators and a secondary stair to the south.

The station’s gently undulating white-winged form on the landscape and the light materials used to develop the station have created a transport precinct which is both highly functional and provides its patrons with an excellent quality of service, as well as creating a civic place which serves a public function intrinsic to its integration with the adjacent shopping centre and the linking station square.

The station is now over 20 years old and still provides an iconic arrival point via rail to the City of Joondalup.
