The Project is located at the end of Campbell Street in West Perth, a 5 minute walk from the centre of West Perth with all the shops, cafes and restaurants and within a 15 minute walk from Kings Park, Perth, Leederville and Subiaco. The site is immediately adjacent to the City West rail station on the Fremantle Line and the Fremantle – Perth PSP, coupled with the sites close proximity to the Perth CAT bus services running through West Perth, provides an ideal location for a Transit Orientated Development.

The development incorporates 86 residential dwellings providing a diverse range of accommodation types, comprising 51no 1-Bed dwellings, 8no 2-bed 1-Bath dwellings and 27no 2-Bed 2-bath dwellings. The configuration of the proposed development has been based on a ‘podium-tower’ built-form with a 5-storey podium presenting a ‘human scale’ to the street, with the 9-storey tower situated behind towards the rear of the site.

The podium element of the development has been designed to address the public realm, providing interest, articulation and definition to the built-form, whilst helping to reduce the overall scale of the development. The aim was to optimise the interactive edge with Campbell Street and the PSP through the provision of the main pedestrian and vehicular entry, individual dwelling entries onto Campbell Street and the location of private outdoor living areas, functional balconies and windows overlooking the public realm.

The layout of the development has been based on the principles of a ‘walking community’ with most dwellings (ground floor dwellings are accessed directly off Campbell Street), being located off a secure internal landscaped courtyard.

The contemporary architectural style combines with a palate of low maintenance materials and external finishes that provides contrast to the exterior of the buildings, light and dark, solid and void. The variation in the materials, colours and textures help to reduce the overall bulk and scale of the development. A high level of materiality is provided to the podium at street level to provide visual interest and delight for pedestrians.

The high standard of built-form is reflected in the high quality and design of the internal landscaped courtyard and the landscaped roof-top BBQ area, with edible garden. These communal facilities provide a secure environment for the residents to create a sense of community within the development and a sense of ownership for all residents

All of the dwellings are designed to respond to the conditions of the local climate and have been orientated to optimise sustainable living solutions, including passive solar heating, cooling, cross-ventilation and day-lighting strategies. All dwellings enjoy excellent cross-ventilation and dual aspect design. Each apartment comprises an open plan Living Area that connects directly onto a large outdoor terrace. The deep terraces provide comfortable outdoor living areas to enjoy entertaining guests and family, whilst serving to reduce building mass and facilitate a natural breezeway through the apartment buildings.
