The City of Busselton has for some years had a strategic objective to review its Civic and Administration Centre on the grounds that the current accommodation has outgrown its present and future requirements. The existing civic and administration facilities have been renovated and extended over many years in an effort to cope with the growth in the Council’s operations and associated staff growth.
The City of Busselton sought a design to incorporate refurbishment in part and new extensions to the City’s Civic and Administration Centre, allowing for further growth and improved facilities and amenities. The new facilities will be positioned on the existing Council site, a prominent location on the Vasse River at the entry to Busselton’s city centre and will provide the opportunity to create an iconic building and a new phase in the future growth of Busselton.
The Centre will comprise new facilities for administration, the Office of the CEO, Council Chambers and areas for elected members, public reception and function room facilities.
The surrounding landscape and river aspect will provide an external focus in the design and incorporate external terraces for staff and public functions. A small performing arts centre is also a consideration for future expansion of the facilities.
The desire is for the Civic and Administration Centre to be an iconic building, signalling the Council’s commitment to excellence in its services whilst at the same time reflecting Council’s efficient application of the community’s financial resources.
The building design comprises innovation, timeless vision and an opportunity for a new identity for the City of Busselton, integrating within its existing surroundings and reflective of the identity of the coastal environment of the Geographe region.
It was also to be easily identifiable by all and become a place that the community will be proud of when it opens and as it matures.
