There are now just weeks to go before Ian Hart will be donning lycra for the annual 2017 Hawaiian Ride for Youth to raise awareness and funds for Youth Focus.
Youth Focus is an independent not for profit organisation that supports vulnerable young people in WA by offering a range of free mental health services. There are over 180 cyclists taking part in the ride who will be covering approximately 700kms over the 5 days from Albany to Perth. The training for the ride includes getting up at 5am for 3 mornings a week over a 6 month period, with each rider averaging over 7,500km in training alone!
Did you know?
- More people die as a result of suicide each year in Australia than in fatalities on our roads;
- Suicide accounts for 1 in 4 deaths in the 12-25 year age group, being the largest cause of death in this age group;
- On average, we lose one young Western Australian to suicide every week; and
- Almost a third of all young people will have had an episode of mental health by the age of 25.
